Capture Great Photos at Glacier View Turnout

Travelers who head to Jackson Hole with a camera in hand won’t be able to help but be stunned by the destination’s easy access to views out over the towering Tetons. A picture-perfect place to frame this inspiring view is Glacier View Turnout. From this locale, photographers can get a direct shot out over the largest peaks including Middle Teton, Mt. Owen, and Grand Teton alike. Sagebrush plains and trees along the winding river also make up the background of these scenic shots infusing even more texture and depth into the final product. There’s also a good chance you’ll get some wildlife in the mix depending on what time of year you head to Glacier View Turnout to capture the moment.

Take Time to Photograph Town Square at its Very Best

Any time you travel to Jackson Hole, stopping by Town Square and making sure you get a photo in front of one of the four massive elk antler arches is a must! Each year, antlers shed these massive antlers, giving the community of Jackson Hole plenty of material for keeping their arches in pristine condition and ready to be photographed at a moment’s notice. These impressive Town Square monuments are designed using upward of 10,000 pounds of antlers creating an entirely unique and photographable stop. If you head here over the holidays, the antler arches are likely to be covered in twinkling lights giving your photos the sparkle you’ve been looking for.

Visit the National Elk Refuge

Once you’ve taken pictures at the arches of Town Square, you’ll find that going towards the point of origin for many of the antlers used to create the arches offers up just as many photographable opportunities! Jackson Hole is home to the National Elk Refuge which showcases the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem at its best. Here, conservation of species and habitat go hand-in-hand and photographers are treated to stunning views throughout. The National Elk Refuge sprawls across 24,700 acres of terrain made up of forests, wetlands, and grasslands alike. This means diverse options for dynamic landscapes as well as a variety of wildlife to photograph on-site including elk, bison, swans, bald eagles, bighorn sheep, cutthroat trout, wolves, and bison to name a few of many. Surrounded by the peaks of the Gros Ventre and Teton Mountain Ranges, the National Elk Refuge is a place where photographers can capture the stunning dynamic between rolling hills, mountains, and glacial outwash plains alike.

Mesmerizing Photographic Moments Await at Moulton Barn in Mormon Row

Between 1912 and 1945, Mormon settler Thomas Alma Moulton and his family inhabited a homestead in Jackson Hole that they built from the ground up. The homestead included a gable-with-shed-style barn that still stands today as part of an area fondly referred to as “Mormon Row.” The combination of unique architecture and rich history makes the Moulton Barn a beautiful place to set up when you’re looking to capture a wonderful photograph with a stunning backdrop included. The Teton Mountain Range rises over the barn in the distance giving photos here even more dimension to enjoy. It’s a popular stop for engagement photos but works just as well for landscapes and family photographs too.

Try Pairing Photography and Time on the Trails

Jackson Hole is a destination practically designed by nature for outdoor adventure. When you’re here and you share a passion for photography and hiking, there’s no reason you can’t combine them both. Pack your camera and lace up your boots to enjoy time on the Bradley Taggart Trail. This route takes you past two glacially formed lakes at the base of the mountains and offers up terrain adorned with pine, aspen groves, fir, and spruce trees as well. This is a popular route for photographers and hikers in the autumn when leaves begin to change colors into vibrant hues. The variety of overlooks offer up customizable angles on the landscape including a focus on mountain peaks and lakes below.

The trail that leads to Jackson Lake is another wonderful option to consider when you’re looking to explore truly scenic and inspiring photographable places in Jackson Hole. You can park at Signal Mountain Lodge and choose from multiple loops depending on your skill level or preference. Loops range in length from just under two miles to over 7 miles total. There are opportunities to stop and photograph wildlife, work on self-portraits, or remain focused on landscapes if you’d like.

Enjoy a Less Crowded Experience

Travelers who take time to enjoy a getaway to scenic Jackson Hole, Wyoming in the fall are truly in for a treat, not to mention far fewer crowds than you’ll find here during peak summer travel times. Summer is understandably a busy time for visitors looking to maximize their access to national parks and all of the charm Jackson Hole inevitably offers up. That said, if you’re the type of traveler that appreciates plenty of room to move and not having to worry about waiting in line for anything at all, fall is a better time of year to head this way. Walking around town in autumn is a breeze and enjoying time in the parks is just as pleasant and stress-free. You don’t even have to worry about not being able to dine at your favorite restaurants because there shouldn’t be any stiff competition when it comes to reservations like there could be in the summer months.

You Can Make the Most of Cooler Temperatures

Summer can see temperatures rise significantly across Jackson Hole, but by the time fall rolls around, comfortable temperatures are truly the norm for visitors. September travelers can expect highs to linger in the 70s midday with nighttime temps dropping to the 30s. This means you’ll want to pack in layers, but you can also make the most of outdoor fun without having to sweat it out!

It’s the Perfect Time to Explore National Parks

Year-round Grand Teton National Park is a top attraction for guests who are heading to Jackson Hole. It’s even more appealing in the fall when the crowds have dissipated and the views are top-notch. Those who are looking forward to a fall hike will want to be sure to make time for the trail that runs by Phelps Lake as well as Cascade Canyon and Granite Canyon routes. The bears haven’t quite gone into hibernation by fall, so being prepared on the trails this time of year is still important. It’s also an idyllic season to view fall foliage! Late September tends to be a terrific time to admire the changing colors with trees turning from yellow to gold and eventually to deep reds throughout the park. If finding the best views of fall foliage is your goal, you won’t have trouble doing so and you’re going to want to be sure your camera is ready to go for the experience.

Fall Is the Season for Artistic Inspiration

Jackson Hole is a great destination for travelers who enjoy participating in fun local events and festivities year-round, but fall comes with some particularly fun experiences to look forward to. In September, fall visitors will be right on time to make the most of the fun waiting at the Jackson Hole Fall Arts Festival. In 2023, the festival is slated to run from September 6th through September 17th and will celebrate its 39th year of bringing artistic inspiration to the area. Visitors are invited to make the most of special festival events held at local galleries and embrace their artistic leanings of all kinds!

You Can Find Time to Enjoy Fall Fly Fishing

If you’re a traveler that loves every second spent casting a line, fly fishing outings during the fall in Jackson Hole might just be the highlight of your adventure. Jackson Hole is a great place for experts and novice fly fishing enthusiasts alike to put their skills to the test in beautiful and inspiring surroundings. September and October are often pointed to as prime fishing months in the area—especially since this is when the Cutthroat Trout reaches high numbers in the water.

Mesmerizing Wildlife Tours Await

Before many animals take to their dens for the winter, fall offers up a chance to observe wildlife in Jackson Hole complete with stunning and colorful backdrops in the national parks. An ideal way to do this is to sign up for an official wildlife tour experience through a company like Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris. Alongside a knowledgeable and friendly guide, fall visitors can make their way through Jackson Hole and beyond, observing everything from bears and moose to elks and bison too. It’s a great chance to learn more about these amazing creatures during an ideal time of year for many wildlife populations in the area.

The parade kicks off at 10:00 am and begins its route at the Teton County Fairgrounds. The parade then travels down Snow King Avenue toward Glenwood before making a turn at Broadway into Town Square. The floats and performers end things at Willow Street and typically the parade finishes around noon. This is a super popular event on the day’s agenda, so you’ll want to bring chairs and come early to make sure you have a great spot to see all of the classic cars, clowns, horses, live music, and even performers on roller skates! The parade is a family friendly event you won’t want to miss out on while you’re in town.

Immersing oneself in a steamy hot spring on a cold winter day surrounded by snow and mountains is, quite possibly, heaven on Earth. It’s downright blissful. It’s the kind of experience we hope everyone gets to have at least once, and if you decide to take a trip to Jackson this season, the opportunity is ripe for you. Located 30 miles southeast of Jackson, Granite is among the most popular hot springs to visit. The spring itself is completely natural, but there is a developed concrete pool to accommodate everyone more easily. It’s widely known and easy to find; about an hour from Jackson. What gives away the location of Astoria is the distinct smell of sulfur as you approach. This one is a bit more exciting when it comes to finding it because it isn’t developed and requires following the river upstream for a while. You’ll be treated to stunning views of the Snake River Canyon. Be careful, though! This hot spring is known for being extremely, well, hot!
