Instead of heading out for a night on the town, as with everything else this year, your New Year’s Eve 2021 celebration will look different with many of us settling in for an evening at home or your home away from home with an intimate group of people that might be limited to the people who live in your household. But just because your 2021 holiday is different doesn’t mean it can’t be just as festive, celebratory, and meaningful as years past. With the right amount of planning, some creative ideas, and help from our Abode concierges you can still have a special New Year’s Eve right at your Abode.
START THE NIGHT OFF WITH A BANG
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort
Prior to the Torchlight Parade, children can participate in the Glow Worm Parade! Perfect for kids up to 14 years old, the glow worm parade meets at 4:45 p.m. by the Kids Ranch and substitutes glow sticks for torch lights. The main Torchlight Parade begins at 6 p.m. and will be followed by fireworks.
Snow King Mountain
Snow King will celebrate New Year’s with a torchlight parade and fireworks from 7 – 8 p.m. Participants can gather at 6:45 in the Snow King Lodge Room and the chair lift will begin loading at 7 p.m. If you are staying in downtown Jackson, WY, then this is a convenient option for ringing in the New Year.
If you’re skiing or staying at nearby Grand Targhee Resort, then the Grand Targhee parade and fireworks display runs from 4 – 8 p.m. The events kick-off with a kid’s torchlight parade, followed by the main event with fireworks!
HAVE A FESTIVE MEAL
The best way to ring in a new year is with a delicious dinner. Instead of going out, either whip up something at home, bring home a meal from one of Jackson Hole’s delicious restaurants with a special takeout meal or NYE special, or hire a private chef (our Concierge can help with that) to create a celebratory meal that will make closing out 2020 an evening you won’t want to forget.
MIX IT UP
New Year’s Eve is all about the bubbly, but that doesn’t mean you can’t kick your glass up a notch by mixing a fabulous cocktail. Get creative with these cocktail recipes collected from Dishing JH to get in the spirit – Wyoming Wildfire or Colter’s Manhattan from Bar Enoteca. While the CDC recommends only hosting an indoor celebration with the people that live in your household, taking your holiday celebrations outside offers a whole new world of possibilities where you can also serve a warm cocktail. A hot, boozy drink on a cold night is one of the greatest joys of the cooler months, and there are plenty of festive recipes to help you create the mood for your holiday feast. Try swapping out pre-dinner champagne or cocktails for Mulled Wine or a hot toddy.
BABY ITS COLD OUTSIDE
Speaking of outdoor celebrations, to bring more people in your pod together, patio heaters are a great addition for staying cozy outside. Another option is having everyone gather around an outdoor fire pit. We have a plethora of Abodes with fire pits that would be perfect for families to sit around the fire and reflect on New Year’s resolutions. And s’mores, anyone?
It wouldn’t be New Year’s Eve without a glittery decoration or two. Our concierge team can help add a festive touch to your Abode with the addition of twinkly string lights, candles, balloons, and more! They can also help you with all the necessary New Years’ accoutrements such as confetti and the trusty noisemaker if you want to get loud as soon as the clock strikes 12. Or they can help book music for an intimate in-home concert for friends and family. Another fun idea kids would probably love, that our concierge team can help organize is a photo booth. They can gather Insta-worthy props and set them up in front of a backdrop to help you create memories to last a lifetime.
SET UP THE BIG SCREEN
A host of Abode properties have intimate entertainment rooms with in-home theaters. Instead of throwing a family bash, have a movie night and settle in with some snacks and champagne for a cozy holiday you’ll always remember. OR use the big screen to view the Time Square Ball Drop. Organizers of the popular Times Square New Year’s Eve celebration in New York City will go digital when revelers welcome 2021. It’s the first time in 114 years that a massive crowd will not be packed in the iconic destination to ring in the new year. But, in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus, the festivities will now be a “virtually enhanced celebration” that will come to partygoers wherever they are. So celebrate the ball dropping from the comfort of your Abode.
GET DRESSED UP
Just because you’re staying home doesn’t mean you have to wear your PJs (although if you want to, you should!). Throw on your favorite holiday dress, sequins, fur, and make a night of it!
MAKE A MEMORY JAR
Here’s a fun family tradition for New Year’s Eve: Decorate a “Memory Jar” to keep over the next 12 months. Every time something incredible happens, write about it on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. On New Year’s Eve 2022, open the jar and take a walk down memory lane.
A new year means a fresh start, and we’re excited to celebrate because one thing that will never change is the ticking of time and the arrival of a New Year at midnight on December 31st, so pop a bottle of champagne and raise a glass to all the incredible experiences you’ll have in 2021. Cheers to a safe and happy holiday from your friends at Abode!
