A Destination Rich in History

Jackson Town Square was officially dedicated as a park back in 1934 and is formerly known as George Washington Memorial Park. It’s often considered the cultural heart of Jackson Hole and provides guests with four main entrances to pass through that are each designated by an arch of elk antlers that have been shed. These arches are collected from the National Elk Refuge and the first arch was constructed back in 1953. Altogether, they work as one of the most iconic photo opportunities around Jackson Hole adding further to the fun of a visit! Beyond the arches, guests can make their way toward the center of Town Square where they’ll find a stone fountain built in honor of explorer John Colter. The park earned its official name on the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth. The naming was part of a statewide effort to establish as many George Washington Memorial Parks in Wyoming communities as possible.
